The Official Closing of Parker Center

Opened in 1955, the Police Administration Building was a state of the art facility and the envy of other police departments from across the nation. So great was the demand for public tours that the Department had to assign a group of policewomen full-time for the first year just to give tours several times a day. It was later renamed in honor of Chief William H. Parker who died in office in 1966 and who had helped establish the LAPD's reputation as a world leader in law enforcement.

Parker Center served as the headquarters for the LAPD until the end of 2009. From 2009 to present, Parker Center continued to house portions of the Department's Scientific Investigations Division, which have now been transferred to the C. Erwin Piper Technical Building instead.
